Honey-Sweetened Granola Recipe (A Family Staple)

Granola is a staple food in our house. It lands on my to-do list as soon as our jar starts running low.
Oats make a great food storage item, and hands down, the top way we consume them is in granola.
Granola is an anytime-of-day food, and since this recipe is naturally sweetened with honey or maple syrup and made with old-fashioned, whole grain rolled oats, I don't even feel bad about that!

Naturally Sweetened Granola
Ingredients
4 cups butter or oil
2 cups honey or maple syrup
6 lbs oats
¼ cup vanilla
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon nutmeg
3 tablespoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons ginger
Directions
If you're using butter, melt it first.
Mix the sweetener, fat, and vanilla together, then pour the mixture over everything else in a large bowl and mix well. Spread on two full sized baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 300°F for 30 minutes.
After that, stir and check every 15 minutes, scraping the edges each time you stir — they're the part most likely to burn.
Continue baking and stirring until the granola is dry and toasted.
If the edges start burning, drop the oven temperature to 250°F.

A Costco Business Center Tip
I love my large mixing bowl and full-size baking sheets from Costco Business Center. If you have one near you, it's totally worth a visit just for these extra kitchen tools and other finds you won't see at a regular Costco.
It lacks samples, the food court, and clothing or some of the more fun home finds, so I still enjoy going to regular Costco too!

Storage & Add-Ins
Store your granola in an airtight container and add whatever mix-ins you like. We most often eat ours with raisins and milk, though figs are delicious too, along with toasted nuts, bananas, coconut, or cocoa nibs — or use it to top yogurt.
